Product Director - Digital Media

Global publishing company seeks Product Director as a key member of the management team to quickly evolve its business model to capitalize on growth in online and offline advertising, subscription revenue and sponsorship. 

This role will work closely with the Marketing Director to live and breathe the product portfolio, understanding the markets they serve, our advertisers target markets, our subscription target markets and our audience.

The role will research and analyze our markets and make recommendations on product direction,  metered access, online traffic and payment and trial gateways, content strategy and investment, online product development, mobile, social and new product development.

This role is commercially focused and the candidate will be expected to implement the plan to achieve the forecasted product growth.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Work with the Editorial, Research, Marketing, Sales, Analytics and Online teams to gain a thorough insight and knowledge of the current offering including product usage and the needs of clients in terms of the content offering.
  • Monitor key competitor performance in the sector and identify gaps in the market and opportunities for new product development and revenue growth. 
  • Oversee internal and external market research from brief to the analysis of results and provide recommendations on product enhancements and development.
  • Coordinate and manage the development of new online products with Editorial, the Business, Marketing and Development from concept to implementation and optimisation.
  • Work with the Online, Project Management, and Marketing and Development teams to create and define the Statement of Requirements for all online development required for new and existing products.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Director devise the pricing and marketing strategy for new products.
  • Write the brief and manage the implementation of new product set ups at fulfilment including pricing and renewals.
  • Develop a coherent online strategy that encompasses email activity, social media and online advertising promotions.
  • Drive UAT and Beta testing on new product launches and advise on usability.
  • Mange the creation of new apps and mobile sites.
  • Measure KPI’s and report on successes, failures and opportunities.
  • Work with the Editorial and Marketing teams to increase social media activity across relevant platforms and maximise the ROI.
  • Ensure SEO best practices are implemented across the site from link set up to site maps, Meta tags set up and writing for the web.
  • Develop tactics to increase online readership rates among subscribers using internal online tracking systems.
  • Continually improve response rates from all promotional activity through analysis of results.
  • Ensure lead sourcing and tracking is set up correctly across all online products.
  • Optimise the customer journey online.
  • Maximise online conversions for trials, registrations and subscriptions.
  • Improve subscription retention through increased online usage and ensuring the provision of regular must-have content. Develop tactics to increase online readership rates among subscribers using internal online tracking systems.

 

Candidates must have a BA/BS degree

Ability to brainstorm with all levels of management

4-7 years in a Product Manager or Product Director for digital products - publishing experience is a huge plus

Proven ability to drive revenue in advertising and subscriptions

Creative thinker - must think outside the box

Must be comfortable recommending ideas to higher management and seeing the process through A-Z
